Ferrets Care
The most popular pets in the world are, arguably, dogs and cats. There are people, however, that do not want to be ordinary pet owners. Hence there are pet centipedes, worms, frogs, snakes, and other exotic animals. For those wanting an exotic pet, yet not that dangerous, ferrets are an excellent choice. The good thing about having a ferret for a pet is that you don’t need a lot of knowledge to raise one. Of course, no knowing and understanding your pet can still lead to its untimely demise. Ferret care is pretty basic pet care with a twist. Here are the most basic things that you need to know and do.
Ferrets are fun-loving: ferrets are very active animals. You can use that fact to keep them happy and healthy. If your ferret has already warmed up to you and recognize you as its master, it won’t go anywhere. Allow your ferret or ferrets if you have more than one, out of their cages to play. Spending about 2 hours a day outside their cages ensures that they have plenty of exercise and they are going to have a blast. Trust, me they will be very happy that you did, and they’ll look forward to it the same way a dog would when it sees the owner about to take it for a walk.
Ferrets eat a lot: ferrets are known for their high metabolisms, so be prepared to feed them multiple times a day. As a ferret owner, you’re going to have to figure out how your ferret acts when hungry. When you think it’s hungry, don’t hesitate to feed it! Keep in mind that ferrets are obligate carnivores, so they prefer to eat meat than any other kind of food. High protein foods that are low in carbohydrates are recommended for ferret food. Since you’re going to be feeding them a lot, make sure you keep sending them out of their cages once in a while. They’re going to need the exercise.
Ferrets are intelligent: you can train ferrets, or at least you can warm them up to you by using treats. Treats will make your ferrets love you as their owner, and they will also follow what you do when you use treats as part of your reinforcement strategy. Take care not to give too much treats to your ferrets as they are as likely to acquire health complications as we are. Ferrets may be shy at first, but they will quickly recognize friend from threat. This means you need to give your pet some of your attention before they give you theirs.
These are just three of the few of the things you need to learn to give your ferret the love that they need. Ferret care isn’t really complicated, but it’s not really a walk in the park either. You have to spend time with your pet in order to understand what it needs. As an owner, I don’t think anyone needs to tell you that.
